An early-morning water main break blocked off traffic on Front Street, just before the intersection of Merrick Avenue.
Police closed off the section of Front Street at about 7:55 a.m. and diverted east and westbound traffic through the Waldbaum's parking lot.
Crews, including those from the Town of Hempstead Water Department and National Grid, worked to fix the problem throughout the morning. As of 10:30 a.m., the roadway remained closed.
