The South Shore of Long Island was hit with about 7 inches of snow that fell mostly overnight. Blizzard conditions can make drifts up to a foot.

Light snow was still falling on Friday and was expected to stop during the day.

Here's what residents need to know about what's going on in East Meadow:

Update: At 1 p.m., the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park will reopen. Other park activities will remain canceled.

The East Meadow Public Library is closed, according to an announcement on the library website.

As of 10 a.m., PSEG Long Island, who took over from LIPA on Jan. 1, was reporting no power outages in East Meadow, and less than five in Salisbury.

Town of Hempstead Parks will remain closed, including Speno Park and Veterans Memorial Park.

The East Meadow Senior Center is also closed, and will not be serving as a warming center on Friday. But the Salisbury Senior Center, on 460 Salisbury Park Drive, is open, and serving as a warming center. Residents can also venture to the Levittown Senior Center on 555 Newbridge Road in Levittown.

Visiting hours at the Nassau County Correctional Center are canceled.

The East Meadow School District canceled all sports activities for Friday, according to Superintendent Louis DeAngelo. Schools are set to reeopen from holiday recess on Monday.

East Meadow Fire Department Chief Walter Griffin said the entire department will be on standby beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, and that most volunteers will be spending the night at the firehouses.

All fire trucks and ambulances were fully staffed, and Griffin said he expects calls involving downed electrical wires and traffic accidents. "We'll be prepared for the worst and hope for the best," Griffin said on Thursday.
