To promote the opening of the last Potter film, the East Meadow Public Library held “Harry Potter Day” on July 14, a program for both kids and adults that mimicked a full schedule of the Hogwarts School of Wizardry. Five courses were in the schedule, each based on a different course from the book series. The day ended with a costume contest and the showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Some of the classes featured were astronomy, herbology and Care of Magical Creatures, which was sponsored by the Volunteers for Wildlife and introduced real, live owls.
