On Feb. 28, the East Rockaway Middle School Robotics Team captured the coveted Champion’s Award at the Long Island F.I.R.S.T. (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League Championship tournament held at Longwood High School. More than 90 teams from Nassau and Suffolk counties competed in qualifying rounds before the final 46 were chosen for the championship. more
East Rockaway Jr./Sr. High School held its annual Sports Night on Monday evening . The seniors took first place, followed by the sophomores, juniors and freshmen. The points scored go toward the Rock Rivalry total, held later this month. more

Inch-by-stormy-inch, the snow piled up overnight to near a foot or so in western Nassau to somewhat less in mid- and eastern parts of the county. more

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli recently completed audits of New York’s 733 public school districts and BOCES. The audits were part of a series of legislation following a scandal in the Roslyn School District in which administrators embezzled $11 million. more
