Memorial Day services go on in East Rockaway, Lynbrook

East Rockaway veterans saluted the flag.
Veterans led the Pledge of Allegiance in East Rockaway.

firefighters from Tally-Ho Engine 3 placed a wreath on the marker for Navy Corpsman Jeffrey L Wiener in front of the Village of Lynbrook’s Doughboy Monument. Wiener was an Ex-Captain of Tally-Ho who was killed in Iraq in 2005.
During memorial services at the VFW on Merrick Road, a street sign in honor of former US Marine Sergeant James Dillon was unveiled on Vincent Aveue. Dillon, who was active in Lynbrook’s VFW and American Legion posts, fought in World War II and recently died.
Both Memorial Day parades were cancelled in East Rockaway and Lynbrook villages last weekend – but that didn’t stop the residents, veterans and organizers from honoring their war dead with special, solemn ceremonies.
