They came to rebuild the Rock!
East Rockaway students, alumni, staff, friends, family show support for their hurricane-ravaged school
Teachers, administrators and students from the 1950s to the present gathered at McFadden’s in Rockville Centre to help rebuild their school — East Rockaway High School — that was severely damaged in Hurricane Sandy. “I am honored and touched by what happened today,” said Dan Caracciolo, a class of 1998 graduate and one of the organizers of the event. “There is a lot to be said about a community that can come together like that.” Caracciolo said that the fundraiser was highly successful, with approximately 200 people coming to eat, drink, catch up on old times, and win some fabulous prizes. “As we rebuild locally and look to brighter days ahead, we realize that oftentimes, internally is where that light can be found. And is always nice to have a Rock to stand on!” If you could not attend the event, you can still donate by visiting www.eastrockawayedfoundation.org or mail to East Rockaway Ed Foundation Hurricane Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 230, East Rockaway, NY 11518.
