It has been a major transitional period for the village board in the last couple of months – former Deputy Mayor Bill Hendrick was appointed to the mayorship following the departure of newly-elected assemblyman Brian Curran, trustee Alan Beach was appointed as the new Deputy Mayor and Tom Atkinson was appointed to fill the last vacant trustee position.

BILL HENDRICK

Age: 58

Family: Father of two sons, Billy and John; daughter-in-law Anna

Residency: 30 years

Career: Attorney, negligence defense and trial work, 25 years

Time on village board: 1989–1993, 1995-present; appointed to Mayor 2010

Village Activities: Village Santa, 1997-present; Chairman, Lynbrook Expo Committee, 1990-present; Member-Saint Raymond’s Parish, Elks and Knights of Columbus; associate member, LYFD Engine Co. and Honorary member of Medical Co.; village Santa, 1997-present.

Why did you choose to run for election?

A: “Originally, I was out of law school and I thought it would be interesting so I ran in 1987. Lost but won in 1989. Now, when Brian [Curran] stepped down, I wanted it. I think I can add something. I can bring another perspective having been on the board almost 20 years and I can add to a very young board.”

What are the biggest issues facing Lynbrook that you want to solve?

A: “Taxes and the economy and jobs. You want to cut spending. We are watching every move the state makes and we want to help our business community and encourage residents to shop locally and help the businesses.”

How do you think that village government could run more efficiently?

A: “We have some shared agreements with the school districts and it would be good to have more shared agreements with other villages for purchasing to cut spending.”

What accomplishments are you most proud of since being on the board?

A: “The library was completely redone. The police department was completely redone. Greis Park is an excellent facility and it was updated and completely changed and the bike path. And good homey entertainment for residents like the Winter Celebration and Halloween Havoc.”

What is your dream for Lynbrook?

A:“I would like to see more good development in older areas like the feather factory and movie house.”

ALAN BEACH

Age: 56
