Senior forward Justin Jonas scored 13 points, and junior Dylan Delury added 12 to lead the East Rockaway Rocks to a 63-27 rout of Pierson in a boys' basketball Class C regional semifinal at Farmingdale State College.
It's East Rockaway's second Long Island championship, and its first trip to the Southeast Regional final since 2003.
After clearing some cobwebs from a 15-day layoff, the Rocks closed out the first quarter on a 15-0 run to take a 23-10 lead. Mikey Lores, who would finish with 10 points, capped off the quarter with a 35-foot buzzer beater.
The Rocks picked up the intensity on the defensive end as the second quarter began, and the Whalers had no answers. East Rockaway took a 38-13 lead late in the second quarter to put the game away. Junior guard David McClure added 10 points and four steals.
East Rockaway will take on Tuckahoe (21-0) on Saturday afternoon at SUNY-New Paltz at 2:45.
