John Sangimino, 33, of Cornwall, NY, died April 30 of heart failure due to complications from Lymphoma. His wife, Kiera, was by his side.
Sangimino was born on March 27, 1979, in Lynbrook, to Rosalie and Dominick Sangimino, who now live in Wyoming, PA. He is predeceased by his brother, Michael, who tragically lost his life in 1994 in an accident on the tracks of the Long Island Rail Road between Valley Stream and Lynbrook.
Sangimino graduated from Lynbrook High School and then SUNY Albany in 2001. He earned his Master’s Degree in Teaching from Iona College. He married his love and soul mate, Kiera Pollock of Sparkill, NY in 2008. They had a beloved daughter, Harper, who predeceased John in 2010. His beloved son, Hudson, was born six months ago. John spent as much time as possible with Hudson and Kiera while battling cancer, said a family friend. “This time spent as a family was among the most wondrous and fulfilled of his life.”
For Sangimino, creating, sharing, and celebrating language enlivened him — he was a writer, a storyteller, and a teacher. He taught English at Highland Falls Intermediate School to 7th and 8th- grade students that he often talked of fondly.
Teaching was very important to him, and he considered his teaching’s utmost roles to be mentoring, supporting his students, and fostering their greater love for literature. He was also a union representative and coordinated the student government. Teaching and helping his students find their own voices was one of his greatest joys.

Sangimino is survived by his wife, Kiera Pollock; his son, Hudson, his parents, Rosalie and Dominick; two grandmothers; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

MEMORIES OF JOHN
By his mother, Rosalie Sangimino

In March of 1979
My heart was filled with joy,
I held an infant with soft brown eyes
A blissful baby boy.

A sweet and lovable child
Who grew to be a man,
With kindness and inspiration
Who always lent a hand.

He was an excellent writer
Though he never published his odes,
His desire was to help others learn
And lead them to the right road.

Kiera filled his life with happiness
When she vowed to be his wife,
And gave him Hudson, their precious son
The gem and dream of his life.

When told he had lymphoma
With bravery he would fight,
Treatments needed were received
But something didn’t go right.

While standing at his bedside
I felt his gentle touch,
Tears welled in my eyes as I held his hand
And said “I love you so much”.

God has taken him away from us
We suffer and feel so alone,
While Johnny smiles with happiness
For heaven is his new home.
