Freedom Party chooses officers

New East Rockaway party selects slate at second meeting

Posted

The Freedom Party of East Rockaway elected its slate of officers at its second meeting on Oct.21 at the Commuters Club in East Rockaway. A set of by-laws was approved, and the new party began to chart a course towards the March 2011 elections.

“I am very pleased with the reaction from the community regarding an opposition party,” said newly-elected president William Kienke. “In three short weeks it’s really started to take off. It shows us that people are tired of a major political organization taking over the village.”

Selected goals and a fall timeline for the party were presented and discussed. A partial slate of officer candidates was introduced with each candidate present speaking to the group before the slate received unanimous approval from the attendees present. Along with Kienke, those elected to officer were Edward Cook, first vice president; Kristen Keating, corresponding secretary; Amy Kelly, recording secretary; Ethel Gilloon, treasurer; and Kathy Feffer, assistant treasurer. Remaining Party offices and a slate of Election District representatives are expected to be filled at the Freedom Party’s November meeting.

Party founder, Deputy Mayor Richard Meagher said that officers would be officially installed at the November meeting, and that candidates for mayor and two trustee seats would also likely be chosen at that upcoming meeting.
