LIRR Statement regarding morning peak service update for Tuesday 8/30:

In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, the LIRR has restored full weekday service on the Far Rockaway, Babylon, Port Washington, Hempstead, Ronkonkoma, and West Hempstead branches, as well as west of Huntington on the Port Jefferson Branch.

For the Tuesday morning rush hour on August 30, LIRR service will remain suspended between Port Jefferson and Huntington, between Greenport and Ronkonkoma, and on the Long Beach, Oyster Bay, and Montauk Branches. There will be no diesel train service to Hunterspoint Avenue or Long Island City.

There is still significant damage to many portions of the LIRR system due to Hurricane Irene, including flooding, numerous fallen trees and power outages. LIRR employees continue to work around-the-clock to assess damage and make repairs.

The LIRR is experiencing technical difficulties with electronic signs at some stations due to power outages and flooding caused by Hurricane Irene. For the latest information, monitor news and traffic reports, visit www.mta.info or sign up for e-mail/text message alerts from the LIRR.
