On Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m., Lynbrook firefighters, along with officials, family and friends will gather at the Lynbrook Post Office, which will be officially renamed and dedicated in honor of Navy Corpsman Jeffrey L. Wiener, a Lynbrook High School graduate and former Lynbrook volunteer firefighter who was killed in action on May 7, 2005 in an ambush and bombing in Haditha, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He left behind a wife, Maria Barbiero Weiner, and two young daughters Mikayla Lynn and Theodore Rosa.

Weiner joined the US Navy shortly after September 11, 2001. With his many years of training as a member and Ex-Captain of Tally-Ho Engine 3 of the Lynbrook Fire Department, as well as his EMS training and skills as a medic for the LFD and with the Nassau County Police Department, he became a Navy Corpsman. The post office will be named after him.
