New York Saxophone Quartet
The New York Saxophone Quartet (NYSQ) visits Hofstra University for a lively afternoon of jazzy tunes. The program features outstanding new compositions by Steve Kenyon and Dennis Anderson, plus works by David Matthews, Jean Baptiste Loeillet and George Gershwin. NYSQ, formed in 1959, continues to be dedicated to commissioning new works as well as performing contemporary cutting-edge repertoire in both the classical and jazz fields. The renowned ensemble currently includes soprano saxophone Dennis Anderson; alto saxophone Dan Goble, current chair and professor of saxophone at Western Connecticut State University; tenor saxophone Steve Kenyon, current lead saxophonist and clarinetist with Porgy and Bess on Broadway and a saxophone instructor at Hofstra; and baritone saxophone John Winder, who has performed with the New York Philharmonic, among other renowned orchestras.
