We need professionals

To the Editor:
Fran Lenahan and Bruno Romano — did you vote for and approve the hirings and salaries of the village administrator John Mirando, building superintendent Dennis McCabe, and recreation director Kristen O’Hagan? Well, in case you don’t respond, let me remind you — you both did.
Did Lenahan and Romano approve the letter that went out about Joe Lores, with the false allegations that he is paid $11,000 in taxpayer money for running the summer playgroup, which was,in actuality, totally funded by the parents of the children attending?
Lenahan and Romano have already blocked the rehiring of Mirando and McCabe, and if elected, they plan to terminate the recreation director. Why?
The village finally had professionals in place who brought stability, good management and a sense of real community spirit to our village. Mirando saved the village $120,000 yearly with his innovative solid waste removal plant and had plans for the installation of a compressed natural gas fueling station for our new CNG trucks. McCabe brought in over $3 million in new grants to our village in just five years — and with no one in place, how much have we lost in new grants?
Kristen O’Hagan has improved and expanded the Recreation Department to where it now serves 1,400 people with 37 programs and four special annual events — and most of the programs are self funded.
If elected, who is Mr. Lenahan going to replace them with? Are they going to be true professionals like we had, and are we going to have all the same services and programs? I don’t think so.
That’s why I am voting for Richard Meagher, Bobby Klose and Harry Levitt. They will lead us to become a great place for families to live.

Maureen O’Hagan, East Rockaway
