LIRR anticipates normal evening rush in most areas

Posted

According to an advisory from the Long Island Rail Road:

LIRR Anticipates Normal PM Rush Hour in Electric Territory
Diesel Branches Will Have Service With Some Cancellations
Service Remains Suspended East of Ronkonkoma and East of Speonk

The LIRR is planning to operate a normal evening rush hour schedule on all electric territory branches. On the diesel branches, the LIRR intends to operate near normal PM peak service, though due to the effects of the storm, some cancellations will be necessary. On the East End, train service will remain suspended east of Speonk on the Montauk Branch and east of Ronkonkoma on the Main Line to Greenport until the tracks can be cleared.

The Railroad’s aim is always to keep as much train service operating as possible on all branches. But to ensure customer and employee safety, service may be temporarily suspended if snow drifts reach 10 to 13 inches. These suspensions will permit our employees to make maximum use of snow removal equipment to clear drifting snow and ice from our tracks, switches and train yards so safe and reliable service can be restored.

The LIRR continues to work to ensure safe travel across the region, with snow-fighting equipment working to keep rails free of ice and snow. Please take extra care when traveling, allow extra travel time and monitor www.mta.info , or LIRR service alerts via email, as well as media reports for the latest service updates.
