LIRR trains suspended for five weekends

Posted

Long Island Rail Road commuters who use the Long Beach branch on weekends must take a bus to a local train station as the LIRR constructs new bridges from now until May.

The LIRR will suspend service on the Long Beach branch for five weekends — Jan. 30 and 31, March 20 and 21, March 27 and 28, May 1 and 2, May 15 and 16 — while two bridges are built, one spanning the Hog Island Channel, connecting Island Park and Oceanside, and the other crossing Powell Creek, connecting Oceanside to East Rockaway.

Buses will transport passengers from Long Beach, Island Park, Oceanside, Center Avenue, East Rockaway and Lynbrook to the LIRR Valley Stream Station. Regular weekday train service will not be affected by the project.

For information and schedules, customers can used a Long Beach branch special weekend timetable, visit the LIRR’s website at www.mta.info or call (516) 822-LIRR.
