One year after the coronavirus pandemic wiped out festivities, Lynbrook returned to hosting an in-person Memorial Day Parade on Monday, while East Rockaway also hosted an in-person ceremony.

Elected officials, including Mayor Alan Beach and the board of trustees, marched in the parade along with local veterans organizations and the Lynbrook Fire Department.

The parade ran its usual route, starting at the McDonald’s on Merrick Road on Monday at 9:45 a.m. and making its way to the Doughboy Monument at Saperstein Plaza.

As usual, the parade included the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Members of both veterans’ groups gathered at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall all 9:15 a.m. for a ceremony honoring the bravery of veterans past and present in the village.

East Rockaway hosted a ceremony of remembrance at Memorial Park on Monday.
