Lynbrook garage fire extinguished

Posted

On Sunday afternoon, January 8, at about 1:35 p.m., Lynbrook firefighters responded to a report of smoke in the area of Lawrence Avenue near Rolling Street.
Third Deputy Chief Mike Anderson was first on the scene and located a garage fire behind 9 Lawrence Ave.  Hose Company was the first engine on the scene and dropped at the hydrant at Lawrence and Rolling.  They then stretched an attack line up the driveway to the rear garage. They found the fire was burning along the back wall of the garage with the main body of fire actually behind the garage, which abutted the driveway and garage of a home at 101 Edmund St.
Engine Company stopped at the Edmund Street house and brought a line up that driveway to attack the fire behind the garage. The vinyl fence behind the garage was also ablaze. Truck Company members overhauled the rear siding of the garage and the fence.  The fire was contained to the rear wall of the garage and the fencing.
Lynbrook firefighters were at the scene for about 50 minutes. Other Lynbrook units assisted at the scene. First Deputy Chief Anthony DeCarlo was in charge of the firefighting effort.
