Lynbrook kindergartners hold mini Relay for Life

Little feet, big hearts

Doing their part to contribute to the Lynbrook School District’s Relay for Life, kindergartners and their families rolled up their sleeves and slipped on their sneakers to participate in their third annual Mini Relay.

Families circled the field outside the Kindergarten Center to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Children sold visors, emblazoned with the words “kids at heart.” They also sold sand-filled memorial bags decorated by the children in honor of, or in memory of, family members who have suffered from cancer. The bags adorned the field for all to see as participants walked with hope for a cancer-free future for all.

“The children and their families were very proud to remember loved ones and to help fight cancer,” said Principal Ellen Postman. “It was a memorable experience for everyone involved.”

This event served as a prelude to a larger Relay For Life celebration, open to the entire community, which will take place on Saturday, May 22 at South Middle School, from 5 p.m. to midnight. Community members are invited to form teams and join this celebration of remembrance and hope to honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to lives that were lost and raise money to fight the disease.
