Lynbrook to host large intra-municipality Veterans’ Day Parade

Lynbrook village officials are planning to host an intra-municipality Veterans’ Day Parade, rain or shine, on Nov. 7 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The villages of Valley Stream, Rockville Centre, East Rockaway, Malverne and South Floral Park, have already shared an interest in participating in the event, and Lynbrook is seeking other municipalities to join.

The benefits of the event will include locating, recognizing and incorporating all WWII veterans into the parade. It will also offer villages an opportunity to invite veterans from all wars and branches of services to march or ride alongside fellow veterans in recognition of their service and to invite the community to participate by purchasing novelty war bonds that can be bought through the village’s website in the name of a family member or in honor of someone who served. Additionally, local senior living facilities and vintage car clubs have offered transportation for veterans during the parade.

The war bonds will be offered in the following denominations:

Victory Bond ($20)

Liberty Bond ($100)

Freedom Bond ($500)

Constitution Bond ($1,000)

Peace Bond ($5,000)

All bonds purchased will be recognized online and at Greis Park, which will serve as the parade’s final stop. After parade-related expenses are complete, all remaining funds will be forwarded to the United Veterans’ Organization to administer an endowment for disbursement to aid the homeless veterans.

The parade route will be in Lynbrook, commencing on Merrick Road from Ocean Avenue, heading west, turning left on Horton Avenue and ending at Greis Park.

The festivities will include armored vehicles from the Nassau County Armor Museum, WWII re-enactors, local marching bands, civic organizations, members of the Lynbrook Fire Department and floats depicting iconic moments of WWII. At Greis Park, there will be a static display of WWII memorabilia, the judging of floats, food and entertainment. Veteran organizations from all communities are welcome to join. A guest speaker will be present at closing ceremonies and veterans’ services will also be available.
