Police seek suspect in HSBC heist

Robbery Squad detectives are investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Thursday, May 19 at 3:55 p.m. in Lynbrook.

According to detectives, a man entered the HSBC Bank located at 15 Atlantic Ave. and made a verbal demand for money to a teller.

The thief made off with $900, according to Lynbrook Police Sgt. Charles McCartney.

The man then fled on foot, heading south on Atlantic Avenue and then west on Stauderman Avenue.

The subject is described as a male white, 5’6” tall in his early 20’s, wearing a dark colored Nike hooded sweatshirt, dark baseball cap and blue jeans.

At the time of the robbery there were six employees present. No injuries were reported.

In June of 2010, a man attempted to rob the Bank of America in Lynbrook, which stands just yards away from HSBC, but left the bank before getting any money, police said.

According to detectives, in the 2010 attempted robbery, a male subject entered the bank, located at corner of Atlantic Avenue and Merrick Road, and presented a note demanding money from a teller. For reasons unknown, police said, the man left the bank before obtaining any proceeds and fled on foot towards Forest Avenue. There were six employees and four customers present. There were no injuries.
