Partly Cloudy North Shore School District’s budget passes
The North Shore School District's budget for the 2024-25 school year passed Tuesday night, with 2,043 for to 1,172 against.
The new budget addresses the school district’s significant financial challenges while preserving key programs. It features a tax increase of 3.87 percent to help counter the district’s $7.5 million deficit, exacerbated by revenue losses from a 2022 deal with the Long Island Power Authority and expiring grants.
There were no additional propositions included in this year’s budget proposal.
In the Board of Education elections, incumbents Lisa Colacioppo and Maria Mosca were re-elected with 2,087 and 1,881 votes respectively, and newcomer James Svendsen secured a seat with 1,800 votes. Svendsen will serve out the remaining one year of the term of Marianne Russo, who stepped down from the board earlier in the year.
