Peg Wilson honored with Pathfinder Award

Marguerite (Peg) Wilson, a volunteer at South Nassau Communities Hospital, was recently honored with the Town of Hempstead Pathfinder Award for her “Contributions to Health Services.”

Wilson led a group of volunteers at the hospital each week for the past 45 years, and had served as volunteer manager of South Nassau’s Rockville Centre Thrift Store for some 25 years. She was also honored by South Nassau in 1999 with its Mary Pearson Award for her extraordinary efforts and contributions that significantly advanced the hospital’s commitment to compassionate care and standard-setting services. To also express its gratitude to Wilson and her husband for their generosity throughout the years, the hospital dedicated a donor garden in their name.

Along with her commitment to South Nassau, Peg is recognized throughout the East Rockaway community for all she has done. A Girl Scout leader, she established the 4H Club of East Rockaway some 50 years ago and has also served as Trustee of the Roman Catholic Church of the Most Precious Blood from 1960 to 2007. She was honored with the East Rockaway Foundation Award in 2004 for outstanding service to the community and has also received a Certificate of Honor from the New York State Assembly recognizing her for wartime service as a “Rosie the Riveter.”
