Assemblyman Brian Curran (14th AD-Lynbrook) recently co-sponsored a Jobs Fair with his colleague, Assemblyman Ed Ra (21st AD-Franklin Square), at Molloy College.

“It is our priority to ensure that our returning heroes are given the support they need and the opportunities they so deserve,” said Curran. “Our veterans fought for our country with pride and honor, and this jobs fair was our tribute to them. These brave men and women should not have to suffer unduly when returning home looking for employment; the unemployment rate amongst our post 9/11 veterans returning from overseas is 13.1 percent, far above the national average.”

More than 80 businesses and organizations participated and over 1,000 people were in attendance. The fair focused on hiring veterans, a portion of the workforce which has been overtly affected by a poor job market.

“I would like to thank all of the businesses and organizations who participated. It is wonderful to see the community reach out to our veterans and support them during these tough economic times. I am proud to have been a part of bringing exceptional job opportunities to exceptional men and women. The focus of the fair was to employ veterans, but all were welcomed and encouraged to attend,” said Curran.
