9/11 steel beams from WTC to be erected at village's memorial

Two World Trade Center steel beams donated to Lynbrook by the New York Port Authority will be erected on Aug. 10, according to Deputy Mayor Alan Beach. The beams are expected to arrive sometime between 12:30 and 1 p.m. at the Sept. 11 memorial grounds behind Lynbrook Village Hall, 1 Columbus Drive.

The village will commemorate the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks with a memorial ceremony at the grounds on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.

In related news, The Village Foundation of East Rockaway, Inc. has announced that it has also secured two pieces of “Sacred Steel” to be added to the 9/11 Memorial located in Memorial Park at Denton and Wood avenues, adjacent to Village Hall at 376 Atlantic Avenue, East Rockaway.

The VFER asks residents to be part of the journey as the steel is escorted into Oceanside, where it will be prepared prior to taking its future place at the site of the memorial.

The procession will pass through the Village of East Rockaway at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10. The procession carrying the steel will make a brief stop at Village Hall.

The complete route traveled will be as follows: southbound on Atlantic Avenue towards Main Street; left on to Main Street and head eastbound towards Oceanside. After the Long Island Railroad tracks, it will proceed right onto Lawson Boulevard and head southbound towards “Oil City,” where the steel will be prepared.
