The Owls have landed in East Rockaway!

Posted

On Fri. Feb. 17, Centre Avenue Elementary School’s 3rd-graders were visited by birds of prey from the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center.

Wildlife Care Coordinator Alice Bryant brought a Barred owl, two Eastern Screech owls, a kestrel, and a red-tailed hawk to the Richard J. Meagher Library at the East Rockaway School to highlight the characteristics of the different species of owls. The visit was in conjunction with the students’ first research project for the school’s library program, spearheaded by Library Media Specialist Petra Schoen.
