A harmonious start to Gotham’s day

Music and patriotism highlight the morning announcements at Gotham Avenue School in Elmont thanks to members of the school’s student council and Principal Marshall Zucker.

Each morning, Principal Zucker, along with several student council members, recite the pledge of allegiance and sing a patriotic song over the school’s public address system for the entire student body.

Once completed, Zucker plays a jazz song for students as a way to jump-start the academic learning in the building. “It allows them to hear music that adheres to a positive atmosphere,” Zucker said.

Aside from beginning the school day in an optimistic way, Zucker hopes the inclusion of jazz music will broaden students’ musical horizons. As for the students, they truly enjoy it.

“It’s a great way to start the day,” Student Council Representative Steiger Devil said. “When you listen it inspires you and it makes your day happier.”
