An unidentified 25-year-old Oceanside man doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire at the Sunoco Gas Station at 3414 Long Beach Road in Oceanside Thursday night, according to Oceanside Fire Chief J.T. Madden. Madden said his department and the Nassau County Police responded.

The man started a fire at the gas station, according to Terry Reichel, who was at the scene. The man, on fire, then ran across Long Beach Road from the gas station, where some good Samaritans put his fire out.

Nassau County Police Public Information said they received the call at 11:15 on Thursday night. They said he was still alive this morning.

The man was transported to the Nassau County Medical Center, which has a burn unit. A spokesperson on the burn unit confirmed he was listed in critical and unstable condition.
