Opening a gift store had forever been a dream for Paige Antonellis and her late husband. Having worked for years at Noel's Cottage, she knew exactly what was involved.

Last spring, when Noel's owner decided to close the longtime store, Mary Vangeli, the floral designer there, contacted Antonellis, insisting that the time was right to follow her vision and launch a new shop. An offer of partnership was also extended to two former Noel's employees, Esther Jollon and Patti Wolfsdorf. And in July, the foursome formed a corporation.

"We signed a lease in August with the best landlord in the world," Antonellis said. "He gutted the former store, and rebuilt it into a beautiful Manhattan style, loft-like setting." She and her three partners (who are now close friends) did endless shopping, attended gift shows, met with reps, and in less than three months, got it all put together. On Oct. 16, Moments, Memories & Traditions, a true labor of love, opened for business.

The store is already brimming with colorful gifts and accessories. Silk florals are shown as centerpieces, garlands and wreaths, and can also be custom done. Furniture accents, such as desks, chairs, settees, and game tables join lighting in the form of floor and table lamps, and chandeliers. Tabletop items include candle holders, teapots, trays, cake stands and more. Among the home accents are decorative pillows, clocks, night lights, throws and wall decor, like mirrors and paintings.

Aromas abound, the shop carries candles, potpourri, room sprays and diffusers. Shown is a French line of bath and body products by Pres de Province, and Stonewall Kitchen is their line for the edible products. There are many baby gifts to choose from. Handbags, scarves, jewelry, as well as items for the woman's desk, make terrific gifts or are simply fun to browse through.

Most unique is the photography done by Jonathan Spector, who is also a guidance counselor at Lynbrook High School. He will take his original photograph and size it to order, from 5 inches by 7 inches, to as large at 3 feet by 5 feet. Pictures can be framed or printed onto canvas. One of his most spectacular shots is of Long Beach, photographed from a plane.

Gift baskets are yet another option, either readymade or customized. Soon to be added will be a store Web site, wedding gifts, shower favors, and Christening gowns. Moments, Memories & Traditions offers gift wrapping is available.
Antonellis describes the store as, "An assortment of elegant yet affordable accessories for your home, yourself, and the occasions of your life. We hope to enhance your moments, help your create your memories, and watch you establish traditions."
