H. Frank Carey High School was crowned the winner of Sewanhaka Central High School District’s annual District Sports Night on Feb. 29, held at Carey.

Students in grades 7-12 from each school in the district — including Carey, Elmont Memorial, Sewanhaka, Floral Park Memorial and New Hyde Park Memorial high schools — competed in various games, including Tug-of-War and relay races. New Hyde Park place second; Elmont finished third; Sewanhaka was fourth; and Floral Park finished fifth.

"As a seventh-grader coming into Carey, all I ever looked forward to is doing District Sports Night," said Amanda Andrade, an 11th-grader now. "It was a lot of fun, and a great way to come together as a district. It was one of the best experiences I had."

Erin Gilroy, grade 11, agreed. "All the hard work we put in paid off," she said. "It was a great experience just to be in it and even better that we were able to win."
