Christkindl Markt at Plattduetsche Park

Franklin Square neighbors celebrated the start of the December holiday season at the Plattduetsche Park, Restaurant, Catering and Biergarten’s Christkindl Markt last weekend.

“We love starting off the holiday season for so many people each year with our Christkindl Markt,” said Matthew Buck, general manager.

The annual event is styled after traditional European Christmas markets, where patrons are invited to stroll through to find holiday gifts. People shopped for unique gifts and imported goods like stolen and chocolate. Vendors sold food, clothing, jewelry, holiday décor, collectibles and more.

Folks of all ages enjoyed crafts, caroling and visited with Santa during the festivities. The Plattduetsche’s own traditional German brass band Foehrer Musik Freunde performed for the crowd as well.

“It really embodies the concept of gemuetlich, which means a cozy or friendly feeling — something we always strive for here at the Plattdeutsche,” Buck said.
