The New York Philharmonic returns to Tilles Center under the baton of Music Director Alan Gilbert in an all-Russian program, Saturday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. Russian-born pianist Yefim Bronfman is the guest soloist. The program includes Prokofiev’s Piano Concert No. 2 and Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2. Gilbert began his tenure as Music Director of the NYP in the 2009-10 season, and is the first native New Yorker to hold the post. Currently conductor laureate of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Gilbert was chief conductor and artistic advisor of that ensemble until June 2008. A graduate of Harvard University, Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, his recording of Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award.
