Two people were injured in a single-vehicle crash in Elmont on March 24, in the evening, according to the Nassau County Police Department’s 5th Precinct.

According to Lou Minutoli, a local resident who arrived on scene, a female driver lost control of her vehicle last Saturday and struck two pedestrians near King Umberto’s restaurant, located near the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Meacham Avenue in Elmont.

According to Minutoli, the vehicle was traveling northbound when it left the roadway, careened onto the
sidewalk, sideswiped a parked car, struck the two people and knocked down a light pole. The vehicle came to a stop on the sidewalk of Meacham Avenue, he added.

Local firefighters and police officers arrived to the scene, and the two injured residents were transported to an area hospital by fire department and police ambulance.

The 5th Precinct has not yet issued a release regarding this incident.
