The legacy of Theodor Seuss Geisel, known best by his pen name, “Dr. Seuss,” was celebrated nationwide on March 2 — Seuss’s birthday. Dr. Seuss wrote and illustrated world-renowned books like “The Cat in the Hat” and “Green Eggs and Ham.”

The Alden Terrace School’s first- and second-grade students kicked off their own festivities, in honor of the famous author, by reading original whimsical poems, written in the famous Seuss-style, during their morning announcements. Third-grade students shared their favorite Dr. Seuss book with their first-grade reading buddies and helped them make rhyming hats similar to those worn by the Cat in the Hat.

Dr. Seuss’s birthday this year coincided with the National Education Association’s annual Read Across America celebration, as well as the national release of the much-anticipated animated film, "The Lorax."
