Elmont teen killed in Southern State Pkwy crash

An Elmont teen was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview on April 11, at approximately 12:33 a.m., according to New York State police.

Police said that Nasir Rivera, 16, was driving westbound on the parkway, near Exit 18, when his 1998 Acura left the roadway and struck a tree. Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene, officers said. No other passengers were in the vehicle at the time.

Rivera was a junior at Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park.

"His classmates and teachers are mourning his loss," said Debbie Lidowsky, principal of Sewanhaka High School. "The entire Sewanhaka community extends our deepest condolences to his family."
