Five men charged with unlawfully dealing with a child

Five men were arrested on Oct. 23 during a Nassau police Project 21 initiative, which targets the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products to minors.

The Problem Oriented Policing Unit was assisted by underage agents to detect alcohol and tobacco sales to minors.

The following individuals were arrested, according to officers:

Marcelus Lawson, 18, of Radnor Street, Jamaica, sold alcohol and tobacco products to a minor at Posh Convenience on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square. Police found that the store did not have a valid liquor license. Lawson was also in possession of a spiked metal knuckle, officers said. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage to a minor, unlawful sale of tobacco products, unlawfully dealing with a child and unlawful sale without appropriate license.

Yashvantkumar V. Shah, 72, of Lloyd Street, New Hyde Park, sold alcohol and tobacco products to a minor at Newstand on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square. He was charged with unlawfully dealing with a child and prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage.

Sagar D. Chaudhary, 22, of Colden Street, Flushing, sold alcohol and tobacco products to a minor at Dogwood Farms Convenience Store on Dogwood Avenue in Franklin Square. He was charged with prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage to a minor, unlawful sale of tobacco products and unlawfully dealing with a child.

Md Shahbaz, 31, of Stone Street, Elmont, sold tobacco products to a minor at E. Smoke Shop on Linden Boulevard in Elmont. He was charged with unlawful sale of tobacco products and unlawfully dealing with a child.

Arquimedes Lopez, 55, of Ocean Avenue, Valley Stream, sold alcohol to a minor at Al Mini Market on Ocean Avenue in Valley Stream. He was charged with prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage, unlawfully dealing with a child and sale of age-restricted products.
