Friends, family mourn loss of local educator

Lucille (Sussman) Gruberg, 88, of Franklin Square, died on June 10, in Longmeadow, Mass. Born in Portsmouth, N.H., Gruberg graduated in 1941 from Haverhill High School in Massachusetts and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Queens College in New York. She taught English at Elmont Memorial High School for 22 years.

Gurberg is survived by her daughters, Fredi Ann Goldman, of Longmeadow, Mass.; Deborah Wolfson, of Oceanside; her grandchildren, Jeffrey, Heather and Carla Goldman, and Kara Wolfson; her sisters, Arlean Levine and Joanne Marks; and their families. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Carl Gruberg.

A funeral was held on Long Island, followed by shiva. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Federation of the Blind, the American Heart Association, Baystate VNA/Hospice, or Ruth’s House.
