House fire in Elmont

The Elmont Fire Department responded to a house fire at 146 Hendrickson Avenue at approximately 1:18 p.m. on Dec. 21.

Upon arrival, Assistant Chief Edward Dailey encountered flames in the walls on the second floor of the two-family home. Dailey alerted the rest of the department that a working fire was in progress.

An Engine was on scene within three minutes and the fire was deemed under control in 25 minutes. The fire displaced the two families. In total, nine adults and four children are now seeking new living arrangements, the Elmont Fire Department said.

Chief Rob Schriefer was the incident commander and the Nassau County Fire Marshal's office was notified for an investigation as per standard procedure.
