H.S. football: Week 3

Posted

Any Nassau County High School football team seeded fifth, seventh or eighth in its respective conference began the season with back-to-back road games and will play at home for the first time in 2009 in Week 3. That includes eight locals: Baldwin, Calhoun, Clarke, East Meadow, East Rockaway, Kennedy, Long Beach and Lynbrook.

Baldwin and Long Beach open their home schedules in style under the lights on Friday at 7 p.m. The Bruins take on rival Oceanside in Conference I, while the Marines get a visit from Great Neck South in Conference II.

Lynbrook, fresh off an upset of Conference III top-seeded Lawrence and the only team in the county to open with two straight road victories, will try to avoid a letdown when Manhasset comes calling on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Golden Tornadoes will look to get back in the win column at Hewlett. In Conference I, Calhoun entertains Massapequa and East Meadow hosts Port Washington. In Conference II, heavyweights Garden City and defending champion Elmont will clash on the Spartans' home field, and Kennedy's home opener comes against Division. In Conference IV, Oyster Bay travels to East Rockaway and Clarke is home to Island Trees.
