HS football: Week 4

Posted

A dozen teams -- three from each conference -- remain unbeaten heading into Week 4 of Nassau County football. Perhaps the most unlikely of the bunch is Long Beach, the preseason No. 6 seed in Conference II. The Marines, who got a school-record-tying six touchdowns from James Forkin in an easy win over Herricks last Saturday, are home against Westbury (1-2) on Friday night. Kickoff at Long Beach Middle School is 7 p.m.

A battle of undefeated teams takes place under the lights at Seaford in Conference IV when the Vikings host West Hempstead. The Rams upseat Seaford on its field a year ago.

In Conference III, Hewlett, the preseason No. 7 seed, is 3-0 and set to host 3-0 Plainedge on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. It's Homecoming for the Bulldogs. Also in Conference III, unbeaten Lawrence visits Valley Stream South (1-2), South Side (2-1) travels to Glen Cove (2-1), Lynbrook (1-2) goes to Manhasset (2-1), and Sewanhaka (0-3) is home to Division (1-2.)

The most notable game in Conference I is a rematch of last year's first-round playoff matchup between Massapequa (3-0) and Baldwin (2-1.) The Bruins seek revenge and are at home Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Oceanside (3-0) hits the road to take on Syosset (1-2), Freeport (0-3) hosts Valley Stream Central (1-2), and East Meadow (2-1) visits Uniondale (1-2.)

In Conference II on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., Carey (2-1) is home versus unbeaten Wantagh, Garden City (3-0) visits Mepham (1-2), Elmont (2-1) travels to Kennedy (0-3), and Calhoun (0-3) hosts New Hyde Park (1-2.)

In Conference IV, Clarke (2-1) hosts Mineola (2-1), Valley Stream North (2-1) goes to Malverne (0-3), and East Rockaway (0-3) has a 7 p.m. start at Cold Spring Harbor (1-2.)
