Intimations for Saxophone
Hofstra University’s Department of Drama and Dance opens its fall season with Sophie Treadwell’s groundbreaking play, written in 1934 by one of America’s first major female playwrights (and produced only once in 2005). The play traces the aspirations of an upper-class, sheltered young woman who seeks self-realization by exploring the life denied her by her convent upbringing, marriage to a man of her class whom she does not love and the soulless society in which she lives.
Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 7-9, 8 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 10, 2 p.m. $10, $8 seniors and students. Hofstra University’s Black Box Theater, New Academic Building, South Campus, Hempstead. (516) 463-6644 or www.hofstra.edu/HofstraEntertainment.
