Local schools receive special state funding

Several school districts represented by New York State Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages received good news this week in the form of “bullet aid grants.” These grants were furnished to relieve financial pressure on the local school districts. The following school districts were notified this week that each would receive additional funds: Valley Stream 13 will receive $90,000; and Elmont UFSD will receive $50,000.

Bullet aid is a state program that supplements foundation aid for schools. Funds are included in each state budget to meet special needs in school districts whose particular circumstances are not covered by the complexities of the state aid formula. Grants are requested by individual legislators and approved by the New York State Assembly.

“Our schools are struggling financially and with this grant we are taking the right step forward in relieving the high tax burden on parents and securing a better and brighter future for the students” said Solages.
