Nassau County football: Week 4

Posted

The majority of action on the Nassau County football slate this Saturday will start at 3 p.m., including Malverne's first game on its new turf field against Conference IV rival Valley Stream North. Both teams are looking to improve to 3-1. The Mules will need to find a way to contain a Spartans' offense that scored at least 38 points in each of the first three games.

Another Conference IV showdown takes place in East Rockaway when undefeated West Hempstead visits the 2-1 Rocks. Adding spice to the matchup is the fact second-year Rams head coach Dom Carre is an East Rockaway graduate. Also in Conference IV, Clarke is home to face Seaford.

The key matchup in Conference I has Oceanside visiting Baldwin to renew one of the best rivalries in the county. Both teams are coming off their first losses of 2011. The Saliors were blanked by Freeport, 20-0, and will be looking to get their offense back on track.

Freeport and East Meadow appear the teams to beat in Conference I. The Red Devils go to Massapequa, while the high-scoring Jets visit Uniondale.

In Conference II, Elmont and Calhoun meet in a battle of 2-1 teams. The Spartans take to the road after taking one on the chin from Carey. The Seahawks head to Westbury. Long Beach, off to a 2-1 start, hosts undefeated Garden City. Undefeated Mepham will be tested by Wantagh.

In Conference III, Hewlett goes to Sewanhaka for a rematch of last year's first-round playoff game won by the Bulldogs. Unbeaten Lynbrook is at Floral Park, while Lawrence has a 5 p.m. kickoff at Glen Cove. South Side, coming off its first win under new head coach Phil Onesto, travels to Division.
