East Meadow 28, Baldwin 0

Count East Meadow among the believers that good things come in threes.

The Jets won their sixth consecutive Conference I game, a 28-0 victory at Baldwin, by turning three first-half turnovers directly into touchdowns. The Jets (6-1) remained in a first-place tie thanks to a ground-and-pound offensive attack that controlled both the clock and the scoreboard. Senior Steven Katz scored three touchdowns, while senior Robert Bright added a fourth score. The Bruins (4-3) put themselves behind the eight-ball before their first possession even started thanks to a fumbled punt return, and a fumble on the next offensive series quickly helped stake the Jets to a 14-0 lead.

“We did goofy things,” Baldwin coach Steve Carroll said. “I’ve been doing this 23 years and never seen it happen like this. Things went belly up badly. They outdid us in every area of the game today.”

Plainedge 38, Lawrence 21

Mother Nature forced the cancellation of Lawrence’s Homecoming parade, and Plainedge running back Anthony Tardalo proved an even bigger spoiler than the weather.

Tardalo rushed for 238 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score from four yards out with 3:17 remaining in the third quarter, to lead the visiting Red Devils to a 38-21 victory. Andrew Jones added a pair of touchdown runs and threw a touchdown pass on a halfback option for Plainedge, which improved to 6-1 in Conference III. The Golden Tornadoes, who scored at least 35 points in each of their first six games, dropped to 5-2.

John Kinder, Kenny Barnett and Ryan Fredericks scored touchdowns for Lawrence, which led 21-20 with 5:29 remaining in the third quarter. Plainedge closed the game with 18 unanswered points.

Oceanside 21, Uniondale 20

Junior Nick Sherry’s one-yard touchdown run with a minute to play capped off an 11-play, 55-yard drive to tie the score, then Danny Goldstein split the uprights to give Oceanside a thrilling, come-from-behind 21-20 Homecoming win over Uniondale on Saturday night. Sherry’s first touchdown run, with just over five minutes to play, put the Sailors within striking distance.
