Commemorating Purim with an African twist
Monica Rzewski/Herald
Chabad of Hewlett’s Purim party also included a place for children to expand their imaginations and create their own masks.

Chabad of Hewlett combined Jewish traditions with a modern twist as they held a “Purim in the Jungle” party that included kosher African cuisine and traditional holiday costumes at Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls on March 16.
There was also an African drum circle, mask making, a slide show that accompanied a child-friendly reading of the Book of Esther, known as the Megillah, which recounts the story of Purim and how Esther and her father, Mordecai, helped to foil the evil Haman’s plan to kill all the Jews in Persia.
