Fire destroyed a house at 33 Fairview Ave. in North Woodmere on Jan. 31, according to Hewlett Fire Department Chief Ethan Lahey.

Lahey said the department received a call at 7:37 p.m. When firefighters arrived they found the basemen and first and second floors of the home engulfed in flames. No one was inside the house at the time of the fire.

Hewlett, assisted by the Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Woodmere, Inwood, Meadowmere Park and Valley Stream fire departments, battled the blaze for 45 minutes before it was contained.

Lynbrook and East Rockaway fire departments were on call in case of another emergency in the Hewlett Fire District.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office, Lahey said.
