Not being NICE

To the Editor:

As we all know, after the weeked blizzard of Jan. 23-24, it was a tough commute on Jan. 25 with no Long Island Rail Road service on the Far Rockaway branch.
Living in Cedarhurst, I took the N32 bus to Far Rockaway to the A train. I asked the bus driver if NICE (Nassau Inter-County Express) cross-honored tickets and he said no, so I paid $2.75; lucky I had quarters.

My friends took various NICE buses such as the N1 and N4 in Valley Stream, and the drivers, of course, with no hesitation, honored the tickets — the right thing to do.

I contacted NICE on Twitter and their response was, “We are not the MTA and we don’t have to cross-honor.” That’s not very NICE of them for one day.

Swim instead of swings?

To the Editor:

Why do we need a park next to private homes (“Village sewage plant to be dismantled,” Feb. 4-10)? We all have backyards.

Zion Park services the apartment houses on Central Avenue in Lawrence. That’s why it’s not an apt comparable comparison.

May I suggest an aquatic center? Why shouldn’t our village have a superior facility like other towns? All the residents, young and old, would benefit from that.
