LWA Antics

Appreciating where she was; looking forward to where she is going

Posted

After 13 years of attending Lawrence Woodmere Academy, it is hard to imagine what life will be like at a new school with people I have never seen before and in a place I have never lived.

My whole life is at LWA and leaving makes me feel both excited and anxious for the future. Being a “lifer” at LWA means more than just having spent so many years in the same place. It represents close-knit relationships, familiarity and privilege.

Not many students at other schools can say that they have known their best friends since they were 5, or that the headmaster of your school knows everyone’s names. The sense of community at LWA is unique in that it embraces students’ personalities to make them feel at home. That is what I will take with me when I go off to college.

I look forward to taking what I learned at LWA and implementing those things in my school work, friendships and future job opportunities. LWA has encouraged me to be involved in any clubs or activities that interest me.

In college, I hope to further explore my interests by taking French, African- American Studies and neuroscience courses. I also plan to take a dance and art classes to balance out the more difficult courses.

I also hope to expand the leadership skills I have learned by starting a club or helping others find what they are passionate about. My journey as a student at LWA has led me to where I am today, and has opened doors for the future.

Wright will attend the University of Maryland and major in neuroscience.
