Longtime resident of Lawrence and avid golfer, Joseph Geraldi, died on July 23. He was 93.

Geraldi lived in Lawrence most of his life, but moved to Las Vegas after retiring from the Supreme Court of Nassau County, where he worked as the personal assistant for two judges. He later moved to San Antonio, Texas where he resided for the past 15 years.

Golf was his passion since high school, as he played every day and even became a tournament marshal on the courses during his time in Las Vegas. A golf course marshal typically maintains the pace of play, responds to golfers’ questions or concerns and during tournaments assists with crowd control. He was also a member of the Peninsula Golf Club in Massapequa where he won many tournaments and trophies, according to his daughter Barbara Schmidt.

“The thing I think of when I think of my dad is golf,” Barbara said. “That’s how people knew him; they’d say your dad, the golfer.”

Besides from just his hobby, Geraldi was known for being a great father and husband, Geraldi and his wife, Mary, were together for 70 years, and he loved spending his time with his three daughters, Schmidt said.

“He had a great heart and was very loving and very giving,” she said. “He was helpful to anyone and everyone.”

Funeral services took place in San Antonio on July 26. Geraldi is survived by his wife Mary; daughters Barbara Schmidt, Patricia Cintron and Janet Stoltz; and grandchildren Richard, Nicole and Evan.
