Atlantic Beach carpenter and cabinetmaker, dies at 88

Gennaro Borriello, of Atlantic Beach and formerly of Inwood, died on September 10 at the age of 88.

Borriello was born in Torre del Greco, Italy, on Dec. 18, 1920. He joined the Italian Royal Navy as a teenager and served for four years. He immigrated to New York with his family in 1956, and settled in Inwood where he lived and worked as a master carpenter and cabinetmaker for over 40 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Annunziata. His children and spouses: Natale and his wife Andrea Delgais, Carmela and her husband James Mazzitelli, Salvatore and his wife Susan Garuffi, Dr. Rafaelle and his wife Suzanne Casden, Gerry and his wife Roseanne Lanzilotta, Lisa and her husband Gerardo Marino, Angela and her husband Gary Sebel as well as Louisa, Maria, Mario and Nancy. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, one in heaven, and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Lawrence Funeral Chapel. A mass took place on Sept. 15 at Our Lady of Good Council Church, followed by an entombment at Huntington Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Gennaro’s memory be made to The Christina Mazzitelli Academy of Fine and Performing Arts at Lawrence High School.
